Giving

Biblical giving principles

We believe that financial giving is a form of worship – not just a way to pay the bills. We are also convinced that giving to a ministry such as a church is really only meaningful for those who have first received God’s gift of eternal life through Christ. We like the term “grace giving,” because when we give financially we are actually giving thanks to God for grace in saving us (2 Corinthians 8:7-9). Giving should not be a duty performed out of guilt or in an effort to manipulate God to bless us; it’s a way to express to God that all we have really belongs to Him.

Here are some Bible passages and principles. Also feel free to read/listen to the sermon series on Biblical stewardship.

  1. Giving as Worship – (Proverbs 3:9) “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops."
  2. Giving Voluntarily – Giving should not be done out of a sense of guilt, duty or coercion. (2 Corinthians 9:7) "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion…"
  3. Giving Regularly and Proportionately – Giving should be done according to a personal plan that is regular and proportionate to one’s ability and income. (1 Corinthians 16:2) "On the first day of every week [Sunday], each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income."
  4. Giving Sacrificially – Regular giving expresses our devotion to God and our trust in Him to supply our needs. (2 Corinthians 8:2, See also 9:8-11) "Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.”
  5. Giving Privately – Giving should be a private ministry. (Matthew 6:4)"…that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
