OPEN DOOR FAQ

Where are you located?

Open Door Bible Church is located at 3420 Highway LL in Port Washington, WI. (directions)

What about parking?

If you are new, please feel free to park in one of the guest parking spots near the front door. Otherwise, we have the main lot and additional parking in the back you can find by turning left at the end of the building.

What should I wear?

Relax. If you feel comfortable with what you are wearing, so do we. We care more about hearts than clothes. You’ll see that most are dressed casually, but some will wear ties while others wear Packer jerseys. If you wear Bears apparel, we still love you!

What about my children?

NURSERY CARE - It is really up to you what you do as a family. We value families worshiping together so we welcome all ages into the auditorium for the service if they can do so with minimal distractions. Our nursery is available for childcare for infants through 2 years old during the 8:00 and 10:45 am services and the education hour (sorry, no childcare on Saturday evening). The nursery is located on the right side of the lobby as you walk in. There is a check-in for nursery-aged children, and each family receives a pager in case we need to call you. (more info)

CHILDREN'S CHURCH - If you worship with us at the 10:45 am Sunday service, children ages 3 through kindergarten are dismissed after the music and just before the Bible message to our lower level for a time of learning and activities. Parents need to accompany them there (and sign them in if they are new) before returning to the service. (more info)

SUNDAY SCHOOL (this is on hold through summer, resuming Sept. 10) - If you come for the 9:30 am educational hour we have Sunday School with age appropriate Bible teaching and activities for all ages from 2 years old through High School students. The welcome center personnel can help you find your child’s classroom.  We also have adult classes during the education hour, details on which are to the right.
(more info)

NOTE: All adults working with children and youth have been carefully trained in our Care and Safety policies and screened using a criminal background check.

What time should I arrive?

WORSHIP SERVICES - Our three identical worship services are held at 5:30 pm on Saturday and 8:00 and 10:45 am on Sunday. We recommend getting to church a few minutes before the service starts. We would like to meet you to answer any questions at the Welcome Center, which you will see when you first walk in the main front doors.

EDUCATION HOUR - Sunday School and adult classes are held 9:30-10:30 AM (between Sunday services). If you come early before the 10:45 am service, you may find an adult class in progress (or being dismantled) in the main foyer. Pardon the chaos, but we are bursting at the seams in our educational program and look forward to the new education and fellowship building we are planning.

What can I expect Sunday morning?

WORSHIP SERVICE - We meet on Sunday morning to sing praises to God and to learn from the Bible, God’s word. Our services last an hour and 15 minutes. Typically, the first half hour is a combination of worship music, prayer and a financial offering designed for those who regularly attend the church (please don’t feel obligated). The rest of the service time is devoted to a practical study of the Bible - a talk delivered by one of the pastors on staff (usually Pastor Sid). Bibles are provided throughout the auditorium or you can bring your own. At the close of the service on the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. You are welcome to participate or just observe. (more info)

EDUCATION HOUR (this is on hold through summer, resuming Sept. 10) - In addition to the classes for children and youth (see above), we offer a choice of six Adult Bible Fellowships (ABF’s) and a Welcome Class for those who are newer. Our ABF’s are intended to help adults get to know each other through conversation, snacks, prayer times and a discussion style Bible study. We urge you to try one or more of the Adult Bible Fellowships which are grouped somewhat based on stage of life. You can visit one of these any time. The Welcome Class is a 10-week class usually offered three times a year. It is taught by Pastor Sid and is intended to help those who are newer understand our beliefs and ministry goals.
